Unlike the 2009 Outlander, the option to choose between a four or six cylinder engine is no longer available. Previously the SE and ES models were equipped with 168 horsepower engines, so the 2010 Outlander is an obvious upgrade in that area, stabilizing at the 168 horsepower mark.

However, the 2009 XLS had a 220 horsepower V6 engine, so only a small increase in speed is available between the two different editions. Also, the 2009 Outlander had an EPA estimated 20-25 miles per gallon average, depending on the model.

For 2010, both the Mitsubishi Outlander GT and XLS have a 3.0 liter 230 horsepower MIVEC V6 standard engine. This MIVEC engine provides power and utility without sacrificing the contents of an owner's wallet thanks to an EPA estimated 24 miles per gallon highway average.

The ES and SE models come equipped with a 2.4 liter four cylinder DOHC MIVEC I4 engine averaging between 161 and 168 horsepower, with a fuel economy around 27 miles per gallon on the highway. Both the ES and SE Outlander models pass the PZEV (Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle) requirement, making them economically as well as ecologically friendly. It is important to keep in mind that the GT and XLS Mitsubishi Outlander models do not qualify for the Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle standard. In all 2010 models, the engine block and cylinder head are constructed out of aluminum.

The exterior design is not the only improvement that the Scion xB has over the previous model. The redeveloped xB is much roomier than the old models. The wheelbase was increased by four inches and the overall length by twelve inches. The width of the vehicle is also increased by three inches while the height was decreased by more than an inch to ensure a comfortable ride. The wheels are also bigger than the ones used by the current xB model - the newest xB sports 16-inch wheels.

The 2010 Scion xB comes standard with antilock brakes, stability control, traction control, front seat side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags. In braking tests, the xB came to a stop from 60 mph in 124 feet, a solid performance. Looking at value for money - can any car at this price be considered reasonable value? Probably not but put alongside its peers it is competitively priced. Battling Stiff European Competition

The Saab 9-4X will be up against stiff competition when it debuts. The Saab 9-4X has been the vehicle which the Saab 9-7X replaced. The latter has been built to be a mid sized luxury sport utility vehicle and it found competition with the likes of the Lexus GX, Volvo XC90, BMW X5, and the Porsche Cayenne. Gas And Diesel Powerplants Offered

Engine choices haven't been finalized but the new Saab will offer both gasoline and diesel powerplants. The latter engine choice will enable the 9-4X to compete all across Europe where gas-diesel sales are evenly divided. No word yet if the Mexican built crossover will offer a diesel option for its North America dealers as American and Canadian customer demand for these types of engines remains quite low.

The five passenger Saab 9-4X will be offered in both front and all wheel drive variations. Leather and chrome treatments will be found throughout the cabin with dual zone air conditioning, voice recognition navigation system, high end audio system with a hard drive device along with all of the latest safety features customers demand will be offered. In addition, a cargo management u-rail system, OnStar, Bluetooth capability and a theft-deterrent alarm system will be standard across the Saab 9-4X line.

The Eos also has door locks, power windows, and mirrors plus automatic headlights. It has dual automatic climate controls that work well and its good sound system was fairly easy to tune. The test car added a navigation system costing $1,800 that includes a six-disc changer in the center armrest, a different locale.

Also standard in the Eos is a tilt-and-telescope steering wheel and 12-way power front seats with multi-position lumbar support. The seats are heated and have five settings too. VW has loaded the Eos with a tire pressure sensor; side and curtain air bags; heated outside mirrors; and good overhead lighting.

And as part of the sport seat package, the test car has some toggles on the back of the wheel to enable manual shifting of gears with the tap of a finger. If there's one thing that the Eos lacks, it's probably trunk space, which is a meager 5.4 cubic feet. But in fairness to the Eos it can accommodate a small bag or a couple briefcases.

Volkswagen's Eos convertible returns for 2010 with no changes to its standard 2.0-liter turbocharged four. The 3.2-liter VR6 engine available in earlier years was dropped in 2009.

The Eos shares its turbocharged, 16-valve 2.0 TSI engine with the Volkswagen GTI and Jetta Wolfsburg Edition. The TSI engine is undersquare, with an iron block, an aluminum head, twin balance shafts, and chain-driven dual overhead camshafts, with variable timing for the intake cam. It features VW's Fuel Stratified Injection (FSI) system, which injects fuel directly into the combustion chambers at up to 1,600 psi, improving both power and fuel economy. Directly injecting fuel also cools the intake charge before combustion, which reduces the risk of detonation, despite a compression ratio of 9.6:1, high for a turbocharged engine.

Being all-new, the TC250 was developed around its powerplant. Pictures of this tiny engine popped up almost three years ago as it raced all over Europe in MX and enduro events. During that time Husky was looking after durability and, more specifically, to get the chassis right, and that took some time. During that time BMW purchased Husqvarna, so behind the scenes even more radical things were (and are) happening.
